Deuce Bigalow:
Male Gigolo

Starring Rob Schneider
Written by Harris Goldberg &Rob Schneider
Directed by Mike Mitchell

IN SHORT: Eleven. [Rated [R], 90 minutes]

That's not as in "... on a scale of one to ten." That's "eleven" as in Cranky's cousins, from age eleven on down, love this gross stuff. And face it, folks, even with an [R] rating, the kidlets are gonna get their hands on this stuff sooner or later. That being said, excepting the fact that there's nothing but sexual innuendo in this story of a pathetic, broke, sweaty, fish-tank cleaner that's pretty well given away in the trailer and teevee spot. Deuce Bigalow aims for the grossest and most mentally repulsive gags it can think of -- and considering that Deuce's father (Richard Riehle) works as a men's room attendant, it can get pretty thick.

If you haven't seen the commercial: Deuce Bigalow (Rob Schneider) cleans fish tanks for a living. It's not much of a living, but it allows for some ghetto jokes. Via his job he meets Antoine Laconte (Oded Fehr) a sleazy European type, always with a supermodel type on his arm or in his Porsche. This is the glamorous life a a gigolo. Sunning on the South of France or, in this case, flying off to Switzerland to please the natives. With a sick Chinese Tailbar Lionfish in his custom made $6000 fish tank, Laconte turns the keys to his luxury Malibu pad over to Deuce with only two instructions: Don't answer the phone and don't drive the car.

He never said anything about breaking the fish tank. Which means he'll break rules one and two. And his customers, well, they ain't supermodels. Along the way Deuce will partner with T.J. the he-pimp (Eddie Griffin), get harassed by Detective Chuck Fowler (William Forsythe) and find true love (Arija Bareikis). On most every level, this thing is a mess. But if all a flick wants to do is gross out humor, fine.

Well, it does do a number on The Matrix. That was cool. <g>

Cranky himself has become inured to the gross out humor. It used to bother me but, when it's an across the board diss, from tall and fat folk jokes to gags about narcolepsy and Tourette's syndrome -- just about anything disabling short of requiring a wheelchair, hell, I can stand it. Some of the jokes in this thing are just so incredibly repulsive and gross that . . . yeah, I laughed.

On average, a first run movie ticket will run you Eight Bucks. Were Cranky able to set his own price to Deuce Bigalow, he would have paid...

'cuz my eleven year old cousins will be dying to rent it. Deuce would be a guilty pleasure if I liked it more, but I'm way past the point of wanting to sit through a gross-out flick more than once.
