End of the Tour

Starring Jesse Eisenberg, Jason Siegel
Screenplay by Donald Margulies
Based on the book "Although of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip with David Foster Wallace" by David Lipsky
Directed by James Ponsoldt

IN SHORT: nnn. [Rated . minutes]

Apparently (boy I am gonna take it on the chin for this sentence) for a significant generation of persons not of my generation, writer David Foster Wallace was the defining writer for a generation.Sort of like Ernest Hemngway or Thomas Pynchon or Kurt Vonnegut or Isaac Asimov or Neil Gaiman (and I'm spewing references some readers may not understand at all. If so, welcome to this site <g>

Someone at Rolling Stone magazine, which ceased to be cutting edge decades ago but still remains significant as a media bridge between generations [students: debate and discuss . . .] pitched the idea that Wallace was, indeed, such a significant writer. So David Lipsky goes out to have a talk. When he makes first contact with the writer, on the phone because he's gotten lost on the road, said writer tells him to stay lost. By the time Lipsky makes face to face contact, at a remote [] farm in the middle of a snow storm, Wallace has settled down -- more than likely he's been on the phone to his publicist who explained the sitch and told him to calm down. Ignorant gits like Cranky quickly learn that Wallace's fans are nuts who don't respect things like privacy. We understand that

Wallace is 34. Writer Lipsky is 30. No internet. No online. Both smoke. He has a poster of Alanis [Morrisette] on his wall. Book tour and signings [in a time before the store insisted you have to buy the new book to get your old books signed as well.]

Stne editor wants to know about rumors of heroin addiction. Lipsky already brached the topic of suicide rumors. Interview stops dead in its tracks. Thus, no pressing on the heroin. Editor sounds like a real dick.

On average, a first run movie ticket will run you Ten Bucks. Were Cranky able to set his own price to Title, he would have paid . . .
